Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to rent a scooter?
A valid drivers license and a CREDIT CARD (Visa/Master Card) are required. International Drivers Licenses are okay with some exceptions. Due to insurance restrictions, all drivers must sign a rental contract and be at least 21 years old to drive a scooter. Passengers also need to sign the contract. A damage deposit of $800-$1,500 is required for all scooter rentals through credit card authorization only. We will not use your credit card information unless there is damage to the scooter.
Can I reserve a scooter over the phone?
Yes, we are happy to help you reserve a scooter over the phone with a $75 reservation fee, which is deducted from the rental rate. Reservations cannot be canceled within 24 hours of your rental period. There is a $25 cancelation fee on all rental reservations.
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa and Mastercard. Currently we do not accept American Express or Discover.
What if I've never ridden a scooter?
Sorry, we will not rent a scooter to you without prior experience.
Is there an extra charge for passenger ?
There is not an extra charge for passengers. Passengers must be present at time of rental to sign a liability waiver.
Late returns
Late returns will be charged a $50 fee. If the scooter needs to be towed due to traffic violations and/or any other reason the renter will be charged $200 administration fee plus legal fees/parking fines.
What about insurance?
All of our scooters come with basic third party liability insurance. If you wish to carry more coverage, contact your insurance provider or, in some cases, your credit card company. If you need medical attention, the insurance that applies is your health insurance. Just like most car rental companies, bicycle rental companies, or Zip-cars, our scooter rentals do not insure your body or provide medical insurance. We recommend that you always hold adequate travel, health and accident insurance.
How long can I keep the scooter?
We currently offer daily rental periods. We may allow you to keep the scooter up to 24 hours, however depending on our busy season this may change. Call for details.
Where can I take my scooter?
Our scooters must stay within the San Francisco bay area. Some areas may be limited depending on the scooter you chose.
Do I need a reservation?
Reservations are recommended. We do, however, welcome walk-ins but availability may be limited. Reservation fees are $75 which is deducted from your rental rate. It is required that you cancel 48 hours before your reservation. There is a $25 cancelation fee on all rental reservations. If you fail to cancel 48 hours before your rental we do not refund you your reservation fee. *
Do I need a helmet?
California law requires that motorcyclists wear a helmet at all times, scooters included. Helmets are provided at time of rental.
What should I wear?
It can get cold in SF, so dress for the occasion. Proper riding gear is highly recommended but a warm outfit with plenty of layers should be just fine. If your helmet does not have a shield, eye protection is recommended. Please wear shoes with adequate traction and protection.
What if I get lost?
San Francisco streets can be a bit confusing in some areas. Should you find yourself struggling to navigate the streets, pull over and plug in your destination to your GPS. If you still need help, give us a call and we will do our best to guide you to your destination. Don't be afraid to ask a local for directions.
What if someone steals my scooter?
We provide a heavy duty cable lock to prevent this from happening. In the unlikely event your scooter is stolen, you will be responsible for the full value agreed upon at the time of your rental.
What if I get a flat tire?
In the event of a flat tire, the cost of a new tire will be deducted from your security deposit.
What if my scooter breaks down?
If you encounter a break down, contact us immediately and we will do our best to replace your scooter.
What if I crash?
We include liability insurance as part of your rental to pay for damage to any objects or people you hit. In the event of a crash, call 911 if there are any injuries. We require you to pay for damage to our scooter. If the scooter is totaled, you are responsible for the total value of the scooter.
Should I have travel insurance?
We reccomend that you carry travel, health and accident insurance as well as trip cancellation insurance.
